The turnover of Jim Ward's Tolman was scheduled
for last Wednesday, and Chuck had asked me to take pictures. We
got there a bit early, and Jim and Mary (his wife) were ready,
just waiting for help to arrive. Just a trickle at first, but
soon there were 20+ trucks lined up outside the shop and 20+ mostly
big guys inside, chomping at the bit. Jim was the superintendent
of schools here in Harper for over a decade, and he has buds all
                over the place.

Jim and Chuck supervised, and it was a smooth
operation from first to last, taking all of (maybe) 20 minutes.
The boat is almost as wide as the space it is being built in,
but that many people made easy work of the turning and shifting
and settling her back into place. When she was right side up,
Jim asked his wife, Mary to be the first to step inside, and as
she did, announced the boat's name, Proud Mary.
Beer and pop were waiting in the ice chest,
and there was squirrel stew and salmon and crackers as well. The
salmon is a real treat—caught by Jim in British Columbia
and canned the day it is caught, also by Jim. He is a man of many
                talents.
I thought the pictures looked like
a movie, so I made a short animation with them. Click the camera
icon below to see it. It's 260 K.
